How fucked up is that?

I hesitate to accept everything presented as is in this article, however, overall I do agree with it. The upshot is, if you read between the lines, it would seem now that Mexico has fairer, more legitimate, and more democratic presidential elections than we do here in the U.S. (Or at least has mechanisms in place that are sensible measures to achieve these goals.) Go read it now.

Guess they're still counting ballots -real paper ballots. Mexico's lucky not to have either Florida or Ohio as part of their country.

Right. It is going to play out like our 2000 election with the two main contenders fighting tooth and nail. It's not so funny considering Mexico's history of well-known election fraud. Hopefully their election commission can do a good job dealing with the situation.

I think the author of the AlterNet piece I read was a little bit too rosy in his evaluation and probably was mostly trying to contrast it with our electoral flaws, which is fine, but it's naïve to think that everything is going to be just peachy in their election.
