weather warnings

This happened at least about four weeks ago and I have been meaning to say a few words here ever since, but was up to my neck in schoolwork at the time.

I was driving around in the late afternoon, probably going to get some take-out for dinner or something, with NPR news on the radio. Suddenly it was interrupted by a National Weather Service warning. These recordings are so cool! First there is a small jolt of adreneline and the hairs on your neck stand up because of the weird warning buzzer sound they play at the start of the recording. Then there is a totally ridiculous robotic synthesized voice that "reads" the text of the warning.

Being from Southern Wiscnonsin, thunderstorm and tornado watches and warnings don't mean much to me, as they are pretty much a daily occurance up there during the summer. Still, there's always the potential of danger, however unlikely or remote. That combined with the absolute spookiness of a robitic voice "speaking" to you over the radio gives me a perverse sort of thrill that I find irresistable. (I know, I'm a total geek.)

I should get a weather radio.
